Active Honey

Innovative formulations of honey and honey products using natural ingredients.

In recent years, there has been a growing concern among the population to maintain an adequate diet and to further explore the relationship between food and health. In relation to this, the food industry is investing heavily in the development of increasingly healthier products such as functional foods, nutraceuticals and nutritional supplements. The ACTIVE HONEY project of the INNOGLOBAL call is integrated by the following companies and research centres: DOMCA (Spain), the Technological Centre LEITAT (Spain), Apicola Costache (Romania), ICECHIM (Romania) and ESPERGO (Romania) and its main objective is to develop innovative formulations based on honey and propolis that incorporate active ingredients of natural origin (such as phenolic compounds, flavonoids, organosulphur compounds and anthocyanins) obtained from aromatic plants and wild berries.

DOMCA will be responsible for the selection and characterisation of compounds obtained from alliaceae and wild fruits with potential immunomodulatory and antioxidant activity. The innovative products resulting from the project will combine the known benefits of honey and propolis with the functional properties of the incorporated bioactive ingredients, offering the market quality products. premium, The resulting honey and propolis will have a unique and distinctive character. In addition, the increased functionality of the resulting honey and propolis will contribute to their wider acceptance by consumers as dietary supplements with potential health-promoting effects.

The project has been funded by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) under the INNOGLOBAL ROMANIA call (EXP-00116482 INNO-20182004) with a grant of 204,119 euros.
