The overall technical objective of the AQUAHEALTH project is the development and optimisation of new natural ingredients for aquaculture, as well as functional additives with antimicrobial and immunostimulant properties for application as feed ingredients.

Various plant extracts with functional properties are considered, with special interest in the use of alliaceae to be tested in different aquaculture species.

Specifically, Mediterranean farmed species such as sea bream (Sparus aurata), sea bass (Dicentrachus labrax) and sole (Solea senegalensis).

Project partners

In order to ensure that the product is well accepted in the markets, direct collaboration has taken place with the Andalusian Aquaculture Technological Centre of Andalusia and their parent companies, both aquaculture producers and feed manufacturers, among which are Dibaq (Dibaq Group, Segovia, Spain).

The development of the Aquahealth project gives DMC Research the possibility to increase its product portfolio in animal nutrition.

Timeframe and financing of the project

AQUAHEALTH runs over a timeframe of 18 months from December 2016 to June 2018.

It has a budget of €2,208,179.45 and aid in the form of a partially repayable loan of €244,917.00.

The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the multi-regional operational programme for smart growth and is driven by the CDTI.
