The project will be developed over a 3-year timeframe, starting in September 2022 and ending in June 2025.

The main objective is the establishment of a biotechnological and digitalised platform for the generation of bioproducts as of agri-food by-products and their application in the production of food, feed and plant protection products to contribute to the sustainability of the agri-food chain affected by the new conditions resulting from the climate change.

DOMCA has a relevant role in the project leading one of the work packages and collaborating with most of the project partners. Our main objective is to obtain new antimicrobial ingredients and active principles for human nutrition, The use of chemical preservatives, antibiotics and pesticides should be replaced by products of natural origin.

In addition, the company will open a new line of research into the production of unicellular protein that can replace animal protein in human food, in order to obtain more economically and environmentally sustainable ingredients.

MISSIONS is a programme that forms part of the State Plan for Research, Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2023 managed by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology E.P.E., in its capacity as funding agent.

This sub-programme includes, among other actions, Science and Innovation Missions, which are research projects led by companies that pursue relevant research that proposes solutions to cross-cutting challenges and strategic areas of Spanish society. In addition, this programme stimulates public-private cooperation by improving the knowledge and technology base on which Spanish companies rely.

The Science and Innovation Missions programme is fully aligned with the initiative. Spain 2050, which lays the foundations and proposals for a Long-Term National Strategy, anticipating the main challenges and problems that Spain must face in the next 30 years.

The missions selected in this call address relevant aspects of two of the nine challenges set out in Spain 2050: the first one «Being more productive to grow better» and the fourth one «Becoming a carbon neutral, sustainable and climate change resilient society».

BIO4ALIM (MIG-20221026) is a project funded by the European Union, the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Centre for Technical and Industrial Development (CDTI). The total budget of the project amounts to €4,960,279.00. In the case of DOMCA, the company has a budget of €555,335.00 and a grant of €413,824.78.

On Thursday 30 November we participated in the Webinar presenting the BIO4ALIM project «Platform for obtaining bioproducts to generate a sustainable agri-food chain and prepared to respond to the threats and new challenges of the sector» in which our partner Lidia Gil Martínez will give a talk on «Sustainable processes for obtaining active compounds».»

The event was also attended by the different project partners such as Jorge Group, BIOMAR MICROBIAL TECHNOLOGIES, Gabinete de Iniciativas Europeas, SL, The White Team, VASCOLAC SL, in addition to TECNALIA Research & Innovation as a technology partner.
