DOMCA participates in the European project BIOSAFE4DAIRY, funded under the Eurostars programme, developing postbiotics aimed at improving the shelf life and food safety of dairy products.

Project Rationale
The project arises from the growing market demand for natural alternatives to synthetic preservatives and the search for effective and sustainable solutions to improve the safety and durability of dairy products. The main technological challenge lies in ensuring the stability and functionality of the preservatives over time and their compatibility with dairy matrices, without affecting the organoleptic characteristics of the final product.
Objectives of BIOSAFE4DAIRY
The main goal of the project is to develop new natural preservatives based on postbiotics and plant extracts with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties for application in dairy products. These solutions aim to enhance food safety and extend product shelf life without compromising sensory or nutritional quality.
DOMCA’s Objectives within the Project
DOMCA seeks to consolidate its position in the food biopreservation market through the development of new natural preservatives derived from postbiotics and plant extracts. The company aims to offer innovative solutions that allow the dairy industry to improve food safety, shelf life, and product quality without the use of synthetic preservatives.

An International Consortium
El consorcio internacional combina experiencia en el sector lácteo y en el sector biotecnológico y está compuesto por los socios rumanos DUNAREA PROD, ICECHIM y USAMVB .
DUNAREA PROD SRL, leader of the Eurostars project, is a Romanian company specialized in the dairy sector and located in Vrancea County. The company produces fresh and smoked cheeses, mozzarella, butter, and spreads under the Traditii Vrancene brand. Production began in 2010, and the company now processes more than 10,000 litres of milk per day. It has extensive experience in national R&D projects focused on improving competitiveness and sustainability.
The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest (USAMVB), founded in 1852, is a higher education institution with seven faculties and a strong research focus on the use of renewable natural resources. The Faculty of Engineering and Management of Animal Productions (IGPA) develops projects in dairy technologies, aquaculture, and biotechnology for the reuse of agri-food waste. USAMVB actively participates in international programmes such as EUREKA and ERANET, having led projects on genetic improvement, milk and meat production in ruminants, and food traceability.
The ICECHIM Foundation (National Institute for Research & Development in Chemistry and Petrochemistry) was established in 1951 and is headquartered in Bucharest. It is currently one of Romania’s leading R&D centres in applied chemistry. Its Bioresources Department focuses on the valorisation of agri-food by-products and renewable natural resources using both conventional and modern methods. The institute has advanced laboratory facilities and has led more than 98 research projects and filed 86 patent applications.
From Spain, DOMCA leads the project and will collaborate with the Leitat Technological Centre.
DOMCA has more than 45 years of experience in the agri-food sector, particularly in the dairy industry. It is a technology-based SME whose main activity is the development of technologies and products for the agri-food industry, with the priority goal of providing practical and innovative solutions to the challenges of each sector.
The target market includes the European and global dairy industry, focusing on clean-label products free from synthetic preservatives.
Funding and Programme Information
BIOSAFE4DAIRY is funded through the EUROSTARS-3 programme.
Eurostars-3 is an instrument within the European Partnership for Innovative SMEs, established between EUREKA and the European Commission, which supports market-oriented R&D projects led by innovative SMEs and developed through international cooperation. In Spain, the programme is managed by the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology and Innovation (CDTI), which is responsible for implementing Eurostars-3 and providing public funding to Spanish companies participating in approved projects.
