On 13 November, the final event of the European BIOVEXO Project took place in Locorotondo (Apulia, Italy), bringing together researchers, European authorities, industry representatives, and farmers. The event served to present the results achieved after five years of research focused on sustainable solutions to combat Xylella fastidiosa and its vector.

Presentation of the Project’s Scientific Results

During the conference, the project’s Scientific Directors, Stéphane Compant (AIT) and Pasquale Saldarelli (CNR), among others, presented the main advancements achieved throughout the project. Their presentations provided a detailed overview of the work conducted both in the laboratory and in field trials carried out in Italy and Spain, highlighting the role of biocontrol methods as a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical treatments.

Attendees gained an in-depth understanding of the innovative solutions developed by BIOVEXO, based on microorganisms, natural extracts, and integrated strategies aimed at reducing the incidence of Xylella fastidiosa and limiting the spread of its vector.

DOMCA Participates in the Roundtable

Our Business Director, Andrea Ricci, took part in the roundtable “Driving Market Adoption, Regulation and Sustainable Business Models”, sharing insights and experience alongside representatives from companies such as Acies Bio and Globachem.

The discussion addressed key factors for bringing biocontrol solutions to the market, the importance of realistic regulatory frameworks, and the role of sustainable business models in the adoption of biopesticides.

Synergies with Other European Projects

The event also featured participation from representatives of European and national projects related to strategies against Xylella, such as the European project  BEXYL and the Italian project INTEGROLIV. Additionally, representatives from EFSA  and The European Commission provided key information on the legal and safety framework.

This exchange allowed participants to understand the current situation, share lessons learned, and strengthen collaboration in the fight against Xylella fastidiosa at the European level.

Visit to Experimental Fields

Following the conference, consortium members had the opportunity to visit the experimental fields in San Vito dei Normanni, Oria, and Francavilla, where they met with local farmers and observed the progress of field trials with biopesticides on olive trees affected by Xylella. These trials are expected to conclude later this year.
