Population growth and increased consumption of animal products will increase the demand for food by 2050, requiring an exorbitant global production. On the other hand, challenges such as climate change, soil degradation and pests limit agricultural production.

In view of this, there is a need to explore alternatives such as the search for alternative protein, which offers opportunities for the food industry, but also poses technological, regulatory and educational challenges.

In this context, the LOOKING4PRO Task Force investigates the potential of insects, microalgae and microorganisms as alternative protein sources for innovative foods.

An Andalusian Task Force

The LOOKING4PRO Task Force brings together a group of entities of different types, but with a common strategy aimed at advancing the study of new sources of alternative protein, and which also propose to focus research on the development of new products for the food industry.

The consortium is made up of 5 partners: Aurora Intelligent Nutrition, Biorizon Biotech, Landaluz, Tecnova and DOMCA, The aim is to create a balanced consortium in order to achieve the challenges set out.

The proposal will have a duration of 24 months and will be carried out entirely in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

Objectives of the Looking4pro Task Force

The main objective of LOOKING4PRO is the development of innovative and environmentally friendly production processes to obtain new sources of alternative protein for food consumption within the framework of a sustainable food model, both in the efficient use of resources and the reuse of by-products.

For DOMCA, this is an opportunity to develop a new line of business based on the sustainable production of unicellular protein as an alternative protein. This alternative protein could replace animal protein in human food and replace and enrich vegetable protein in micronutrients and amino acids to make it more nutritious in diets in a sustainable food model.
