What are the fortifed foods?

The agrifood industry has found significant growth potential in the market for foods classified as healthy or bio-healthy, functional, dietary or fortified foods, which have turned out to be attractive for today’s consumer, who is increasingly concerned about maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.

Due to the increasing demand of fortified foods, they can be considered the diet of the future, due to aspects related to health and well-being. A healthy and balanced diet.

Some of these foods are presented to the consumer in the form of bars, gels, and powders, making them suitable for athletes.

DMC has extensive experience in the agri-food sector and has as one of its priority lines of R+D is the development of fortified foods obtained from byproducts of the agrifood industry.

Naturpick project: Main Objectives

The NATURPICK research project entitled “Nutritionally fortified foods using bioactive substances obtained from non-marketable products of the fruit and vegetable industry” aims to provide the agrifood sector of fortified foods (bars, gels and powders) and gummies, in order to obtain healthier products.

Partners of the project

Naturpick is a project in consortium with 3 Andalusian entitities:  Agroponiente Natural Produce, S.L. , leader and coordinator of the project, Moreno Ruiz Hermanos, S.L. & DMC Research Center, S.L. 

Besides, the companies will collaborate with 3 different Research and Innovation Centers:  Tecnova, a reference in the agrifood sector at an international level, the University of Granada and the University of Seville. 

Funding body and Project timeframe

This project is part of the FEDER Innterconecta 2018 call, funded by the CDTI and supported by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and co-financed with Structural Funds of the European Union.

The project is developed in 30 months, from 2018 to 2020.
