The food industry has found significant growth potential in the market for foods labelled as healthy or bio-healthy, functional, dietetic or fortified foods, which have proved to be a good attraction for today's consumers, who are increasingly concerned about maintaining their health and wellbeing.

Some of these foods come in the form of bars, gels and powders, making them suitable for athletes.

DMC has extensive experience in the agri-food sector and has as one of its core competences R&D priority lines the development of fortified foods using by-products from the agri-food industry.

Naturpick Project: Objectives

The Research Project NATURPICK called «Nutritionally fortified foods using bioactive substances obtained from non-marketable products of the fruit and vegetable industry « proposes to provide the fortified food sector (bars, gels and powders) and gummies with tools and ingredients in order to obtain healthier products, and to provide the fruit and vegetable sector with a new line of business to add value to products which, although they meet basic quality standards, cannot be marketed either because they do not meet size, colour and/or shape requirements, or because of overproduction.

Project partners

Naturpick is a consortium project in cooperation with 3 Andalusian entities: the company from Almeria, Andalusia, Spain. Agroponiente Natural Produce, S.L. (Coordinator), the Sevillian company Moreno Ruiz Hermanos, S.L. and DMC Research Center, S.L.

The consortium has the collaboration of the following Research and Innovation Organisations: The Technological Centre of the Fruit and Vegetable Auxiliary Industry, Post-harvest and Packaging, Tecnova, The University of Granada and the University of Seville, a leading international agri-food centre, and the University of Granada and the University of Seville.
