The main objective of the project OLIVALPORC is the development of new feedingstuffs for pigs serving as the main raw material for olive co-products (olive pulp from dried fatty pomace) and natural substances such as alliaceous extracts.

The project is a milestone in the development of the feedingstuffs for pig feeding highly improved and will provide important nutritional and health benefits from the fatty acids and antioxidants present in: olive pulp from dried fatty pomace (included in 2015 in the FEDNA tables).

In addition, the incorporation in the diet of extracts of alliaceae as a functional additive brings an improvement in the health and production status of the animals.

During the implementation of OLIVALPORC specific aspects on the bioaccessibility of the compounds present in the olive pulp, and the extracts of alliaceae. In addition, the determination of the effect on the immune system de animals from olive pulp compounds and alliacea extracts.

The project not only has an impact on aspects of the animal nutrition, but seeks effective alternatives to veterinary treatments for animal health and the reduction of drug consumption on livestock farms, by carrying out assessments in vivo.

Partners

OLIVALPORC is a consortium project between two Andalusian entities: DCOOP (Antequera, Malaga), the world's largest producer of olive oil and which has 24% of pig farms in Andalusia, and DMC Research, a technology-based organisation whose main objective is the search for new antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds.

The project on the search for new ingredients for pig nutrition is complemented by two subcontracted entities: The national benchmark technology centre in the agri-food sector, AINIA (Valencia) and the Department of Animal Nutrition of the University of Murcia.

Funding

OLIVALPORC has a total budget of 829,604.00 € and a partially repayable loan of 705,162.00 € and a period of execution from 2017 to 2019.

The project is funded by CDTI through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme.
