Research into new sustainable sources of protein by developing novel methods for industry and their application in food matrices.
The PROTIVEG project aims to research on the use of by-products from the food industry, generated in large quantities by the agri-food industry, as new sustainable sources of protein to incorporate into the manufacture of food matrices for vegetable drinks and meat products. Inherently, it is proposed to further study the obtaining of proteins from these by-products, to adapt the methodology developed on a laboratory scale for its implementation on an industrial scale and to evaluate the possible use of the proteins extracted from these by-products in the preparation of food in different sectors of the agri-food industry.
The PROTIVEG project is implemented cooperatively by a consortium of companies. multidisciplinary and interregional with great experience and specialisation in each of the areas and subjects involved in the development of the project, made up of 3 companies representing three important sectors of the food industry: AMC INNOVA JUICE AND DRINKS, S.L., (AMC INNOVA), the project leader, specialised in the fruit and juice sector, ESTRELLA DE LEVANTE FÁBRICA DE CERVEZA, S.A.U. (ELESA), a brewing company, and DOMCA S.A.U. (DOMCA), a developer of technologies and products for the agri-food industry. This consortium is reinforced by the participation of two important research centres specialised in the subject of the project: the Group of (Micro) Separative Techniques of the Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Barcelona. University of Alcalá de Henares (UAH) and National Technological Centre for Canning and Food (CTC).
The project, which will run from July 2018 to early 2021, is being carried out at the facilities of the consortium's member companies, located in Murcia (AMC INNOVA and ELESA) and Granada (DOMCA), with a total budget of €1,693,593.
The PROTIVEG project is co-funded by the Centre for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the framework of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2017-2020 (ERDF INTERCONECTA 2018 Programme).
